Workshop-training "Sanitation as a part of sustainable development"
3—9 September — a workshop-training "Sanitation as a part of sustainable
development" took place in a village of Vorokhta in Ivano-Frankivska
Oblast. This event has been hold in the framework of the project "Cooperation
for sustainable rural development" implemented by the local NGO "MAMA-86-Yaremche".
Stefan Deegener, the expert of Hamburg Environment University, was
invited to be trainer at the seminar.
Workshop program included seminars and practical training. The venue of the
workshop was unusual — the local farmer homestead. All interested dwellers
have been invited to participate in eco-sanitation presentation and introduction
of new eco-sanitation technologies, to see how to build the dry-diverting
toilet".
On September, 5th the first seminar took place. 27 local dwellers took
part in it. The theme of the seminar was about alternative technology and
practice of eco-sanitation and hygiene. During a week local people has
observed all stages of a new type toilet construction.
On September, 9th a final seminar has been hold for 28 local dwellers. Seminar
participants have seen the results of construction and discussed actively
different aspects of eco-san toilet building and maintenance. Whole workshop
had a big interest of the Vorokhta dwellers.
In the near future the similar eco-toilet will be constructed in the other
private farm. We hope, that this first private eco-toilet experience will
promote the dissemination of eco-san ideas and technologies in rural areas
of Ukraine.
