Citizens of Gonchar street protect the park against builders
On the 7th of October 2005 «ÌÀÌÀ-86», Kyiv joined inhabitants of Gonchar street, who struggle against yet another illegal building. To renovate destroyed park and prevent the beginning of building and construction works, representatives of our organization bought and brought to that place the plantlets. The trees are constantly patrolled by the inhabitants to defend them against the new clearance.
The inhabitants of Gonchar street fight almost during the whole month for their right to normal life conditions, guaranteed by Constitution of Ukraine. Kyiv Municipal Council permitted building of Georgian ambassador residence on the site of 0,1 ha. For that purpose park with children's playground was destroyed. This building works violate right of citizens to the safe environment. Public opinion concerning building of multi-storied giant and destruction of recreation area was not taken into consideration. The safety of the new building is very doubtful, while there is a real threat that neighboring buildings can suffer as while building so after exploitation.
Local authority ignores appeals of inhabitants to stop illegal sale of the ground in the center of the city. That is why near demolished children's tilts, planted linden, chestnuts, and cherries the tents were pitched, and initiative group of inhabitants under the support of different public organizations and political parties impede the work of builders. The organization— builder «Construction company «Miskbudinvest» distribute among the inhabitants a letter, where the company requires «to stop illegal actions», that hinder the building of residential estate. Moreover, it even menaces to open a criminal trial. Although received by this company permission is not evidence that the building on the place of the green zone, that is the only zone in this housing complex, is legal. Furthermore, the builders are ready to begin the works although the court, where the inhabitants seized, has not come yet to any decision.
We hope that the struggle will not be fruitless — the park will be renovated and illegal building will be prohibited.
